Here at ESCAYP we offer Counselling and Therapeutic Play service to children and young people in West Yorkshire, between the ages of three and twenty one. We are more than happy to work with organisations, however a fee will be charged (to be negotiated) so that this service can continue to offer support. Please see our Professional services page for further detail.
Our Counsellors will work with many issues including: sexual/physical abuse, bereavement, bullying, disruptive/difficult behaviours, low self esteem/ confidence, cyber trauma and self harm etc.
ESCAYP initially offers 6 sessions the first is an ‘Ice Breaker’ this visit will give the child or young person a chance to meet us and look around the premises and complete the relevant paper work required.
There will also be the opportunity to answer any questions and give the relevant information. ESCAYP will aim to accept all children and young people living in West Yorkshire aged between three and twenty one years of age and not currently undergoing any other form of psychological therapy.
At ESCAYP we work closely with many organisations / professionals such as PDVG & KABWWA. We have service level agreements in place with local social care teams, schools and pupil referral units.
We are currently operating in the following areas: Dewsbury, Bradford, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Cleckheaton, Pontefract, Calderdale and Leeds and we will expand our counselling services to meet the children and young people across West Yorkshire and will set up rooms as the need is identified.
ESCAYP was established in October 2008. The work and development of the service was carried out in a voluntary capacity for the first three years until we received Lottery funding with a grant in 2012 and again in 2017.
ESCAYP was also successful in their application to Children in Need in 2013 & 2017 being awarded funding for 3 years on both occasions.
Our organisations office is based in Gomersal, West Yorkshire, however we do not counsel from these offices, we use satellite rooms across West Yorkshire which are ‘young people friendly’ Our venues include: Sports Centres, Libraries, Schools, children’s etc.
ESCAYP has a team of 22 counsellors, some of whom are Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists. All Counsellors working with young people below the age of 14 years hold the additional Diploma in Child & Adolescent Counselling.
We pride ourselves on the ‘personal’ approach that we offer and our aim is to offer support when the young person needs it. We may sadly at times have a waiting list / have to close our referrals which is due to funding availability.
